Self-Care is for every month—most especially during Black History Month. The term “self-care” is deeply rooted in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and ’70s. It was a means of survival for Black Activists and those of the Black Community.
It is a time to celebrate! However, as we focus on our ancestral knowledge this month, our social media feeds will surely be filled with great learnings of what has been, how far we’ve come, and how much more we still have yet to go.
These learnings can be unnerving and possibly trigger traumatic emotions. This is absolutely natural. Processing these emotions is critical to our well-being. The Black collective experience isn’t for the faint of heart. Take some time out to focus on self! Find out what works best for you to process these emotions. Some ways that may help are:
